Art Classes
I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to facilitate art classes to adults and kids in a community setting for over 20 years. I have witnessed much growth, learning and enthusiasm with my students as they learn this new skill and start noticing so much more around them. I hope to see you this fall!
Register by Sept 8 to be entered in a draw to win $20 worth of drawing supplies!
LOCATION: COMOX VALLEY SPORT CENTRE – 3001 Vanier Dr, Courtenay, BC (map)
The Right Approach: Level 1
In this introductory class, you will be guided through exercises that will improve your ability to “see correctly” as inspired by the landmark book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, by Betty Edwards. The basic premise behind this class is that the ability to draw doesn’t depend on an innate ability that only a few possess, but instead is something that anyone can learn with practice in seeing things a little differently. After learning just a few basic exercises, you will notice an increased ability to draw, as well as a heightened awareness of the visual world.
There will be optional homework exercises for you to practice in between classes.

Artist & Instructor Bio
Tracy creates acrylic paintings in her studio in the Comox Valley, near the Puntledge River. She has worked as a professional artist and drawing teacher for the past 20 years (the last five years was at the Lupine Art Studio in Courtenay). Her artwork is exhibited in many gift shops and galleries – she also has a successful online shop. Tracy is an encouraging, knowledgeable and thoughtful instructor who believes that art is an essential ingredient towards inner growth and self knowledge.
Besides painting, Tracy enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, backpacking, gardening and reading. Tracy also writes a blog where she further reflects on her artistic process and shares her connection to the outdoors.
“As many of my students have told me, their lives seem richer because they are seeing better and seeing more. It’s helpful to remember that we don’t teach reading and writing to produce only poets and writers, but rather to improve thinking”
– Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, Betty Edwards
