Trail 2014
This painting was inspired by boardwalks in the Cumberland Forest and features a trail lined by skunk cabbage, or as I like to call it, “swamp lantern”. I copied the arrow from a sign on Meares Island which is simply inscribed “Big Trees”. Instead of putting lettering on the arrow in this painting, I perched a raven on top, a bird that in First Nations mythology sometimes appears as a guide to the unknown. This piece is an invitation for the viewer to explore the trail and to feel comforted that the path is lit up.
Original: 30″ x 40″ acrylic on canvas, SOLD
