Off the Map 2014

In this image a mountainbiker is dwarfed in the centre of a surrounding West Coast forest.  I called the painting “Off the Map” because there is a mountain biking trail in the Nymph Falls Forest (Courtenay), that when you’re riding fast, you feel like you’re not even on a trail, just gliding through the trees.  That is what I love about mountain biking, the feeling of freedom and how you can fool yourself that you are,  for a moment, living outside the confines of regular day to day life.
