New Years Day

New Years Day, 2020

This is referenced from a beach on Vancouver Island, called Point Holmes, where I grew up.  In this painting the rocks and lines in the sand guide your eye to the two people walking in the distance.  Sunlight is streaming through the clouds, like sometimes it does after a storm.

We did walk this beach on a cold and sunny New Years Day.  I wanted this painting to have the feeling of optimism that is in the title – the feeling of a fresh new year ahead.
