Violet
Violet, 2021
In this painting, a discarded piece of furniture blends in with it’s surroundings, becoming part of the landscape. For me, this painting has a feeling of calm, the purple couch acting as a symbol of comfort, togetherness or home. The couch, something that belongs inside a home, could also represent our inner selves or our lives which we tend to live so separate from the natural outside world. What happens when we mix the two?
To me “Violet” feels comforting but also mysterious – like autumn when we all get cozy and comfortable indoors but at the same time feel oncoming darkness of winter.
