Pond Hockey II
Pond Hockey, 2022
I painted this scene after it got very unseasonably cold on the west coast this past January (2022). Extreme cold weather is a bit of a novelty here, so many went out skating with family or friends on either the flooded potato fields or wherever they could find small ponds. Some people brought chairs, blankets and thermos’ of hot chocolate and pretty much camped out on the ice. The paintings I did are near dusk when the skaters became silhouettes and the sky turned warm colours that were reflected in the ice. In this scene, Trumpeter swans fly off in the distance.
